In 2020, when Toula’s youngest son started prep in Melbourne, COVID-19 lockdowns suddenly stretched from days into weeks, then months. Thrown into homeschooling, Toula struggled to find a literacy app that was both effective and easy to use—everything she tried was too distracting, too long, or didn’t follow solid phonics principles. 

Frustrated and determined to help her son learn with confidence, she teamed up with software architect Gordon and literacy specialist Alana. Together, they created ReadIQ, an app designed to present reading and spelling in clear, manageable steps while avoiding flashy gimmicks. 

 Alana has a talent for helping kids make remarkable progress in literacy by teaching reading and spelling together, ensuring a strong foundation without overwhelm. Her method focuses on true mastery before moving on, building lasting confidence.

Not finding enough clear, sequential resources, she created ReadIQ to mirror her classroom approach. Believing adults are key to a child’s reading journey, she designed ReadIQ as a structured, effective tool—not a flashy game—to support consistent learning.
